Priorities

It is impossible to satisfy everybody. Even in such a tiny church as mine. So I have to prioritize.

This church is transitioning from a fellowship to a church proper, from being laissez-faire to being pastored by me, I think I must put my weight on DNA-level change.

Because of the church’s hitherto laissez-faire DNA, people can just start anything and it probably wouldn’t face any resistance. But that ministry will also be gone when that person stops doing it. At the moment I can point out multiple activities around the church that are running in this manner.

As a pastor, I can also function in that manner. People ask me to do “A”, I can do it, and it will probably run — fueled solely by my energy and availability. Yet that does not sound right. I should use my office to direct the course of this church so that changes happen not only superficially, but on DNA level.

It may take 5 years rather then 5 minutes to start one ministry, but if it lasts when my time here is up, that will be worth it.
